Half Moon Bay, CA — (press release excerpt) — real-time operating system developer OnCore Systems Corporation today announced a multi-year contract with processor core IP provider Siroyan (Reading, U.K.). According to the agreement, Siroyan will purchase rights to bundle the OnCore OS, development tools, and production licenses with its VLIW-based Scalable Integrated Processor architecture codenamed Opus. Opus combines RISC and DSP elements in a single core, along with memory management elements, making it a suitable platform for consumer-oriented applications such as 3G mobile and Internet connectivity, digital television, and digital video broadcasting.

Siroyan will deliver the product as a soft IP core, which includes a combination of: a unique Scalable Integrated Processor solution; a Semiconductor Intellectual Property delivery model; and the Siroyan Industry Partners program, a network of companies and organizations providing complementary products and services that will help speed the development of a customers' design.

“The OnCore OS delivers a very compact and highly scalable, real-time embedded OS that delivers single-digit microsecond interrupt response times”, said Ray Livesley, software manager at Siroyan. “No other microkernel combines this performance with an MMU-enabled, full virtual memory environment. Additionally, the OnCore OS delivers APIs for legacy code written to other operating environments, such as Linux and VxWorks, and provides real-time Linux support without compromising process protection.”
