PalmSource to present Linux roadmap at DevCon
Feb 4, 2005 — by Henry Kingman — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsPalmSource will present its product roadmap for feature phones and Linux at its annual Developers Conference, set for May 23-26 in San Jose, Calif. Registration is open for the conference, which will feature a Mobile Summit to “identify and explore” worldwide business opportunities for developers, licensees, operators, and industry partners.
PalmSource announced its intention to migrate to Linux in December, in order to pursue the Linux featurephone and smartphone market, with an initial focus on Asia. The company completed its acquisition of phone software reference design vendor China MobileSoft yesterday, hoping a local presence in China would help it compete in the world's largest market for mobile phones.
PalmSource's director of developer marketing said, “We've added the Mobile Summit specifically to focus on business issues and new revenue generating opportunities for Palm OS developers.”
Registration is open now, priced at $399 until April 1, or $699 thereafter. A Companion Pass for additional attendees from the same company costs $199. The conference will be held at the Fairmont Hotel, in San Jose, Calif. Further details are available online.
PalmSource will also take part in the Open Source Business Conference, set for April 5th and 6th in San Francisco.
