The devices' LCD screens range in size from 10.4 to 19 inches, and are equipped with analog resistive touch-sensitive overlays. In addition, up to 112 freely programmable function buttons and 16 special buttons can be integrated into the display frame, depending on the display size, according to Kontron. The front bezel is aluminum, with stainless steel available as an option.

The V Panel's embedded computer is based on a passively cooled Kontron ETX computer module, which supports Intel Pentium M processors clocked at up to 1.1 GHz (with 1.6 GHz on the roadmap). The module can accomodate up to 1GB of RAM memory, and up to 2GB of CompactFlash. A hard drive option is also available.

The V Panel includes dual Ethernet LAN interfaces (both 10/100 and 100/1000 megabits/sec), and offers the option of adding a variety of built-in field-bus interfaces, including CANopen, DeviceNet, Profibus, or CAN.

Key features and specifications of the V Panel series include:

  • Processor — Intel Pentium M up to 1.1 GHz
  • Memory — Up to 1024 MB RAM
  • Display — Color LCD with resistive touchscreen. Five screen sizes from 10.4 inches to 19 inches.
