Portwell announced an all-in-one, Wi-Fi-enabled touchscreen computer for in-vehicle fleet applications. The PARD-S071TW is equipped with an aluminum, IP65-protected front panel, a resistive touchscreen with 800 x 480 pixel resolution, and a 1GHz Celeron M ULV processor, says the company.

The PARD-S071TW is well-suited for in-vehicle fleet dispatch computers, in-vehicle mobile point-of-sale (POS) transaction terminals, GPS-based fleet navigation devices, and wide-range wireless network communication devices, says Portwell.

Measuring 7.83 x 5.51 x 2.36 inches, and weighing 2.86 pounds, the fanless, aluminum-cased computer is touted for its all-in-one design, said to "eliminate complicated system wiring." In addition, the IP65-compliant front faceplate is said to be water- and dust-sealed and offers "excellent EMI shielding."

Portwell PARD-S071TW

The PARD-S071TW is a touch-panel enabled variation on the display-less PCS-8270 announced in April. Both computers offer an Intel Celeron M ULV processor, but whereas the PCS-8270 is clocked to 600MHz, the PARD-S071TW cranks its Celeron up to 1GHz, says Portwell.

The PARD-S071TW lacks the earlier model's GPS, Bluetooth, or LVDS/VGA with dual-display capability. However, it adds a touchscreen and more serial ports.

The PARD-S071TW ships with up to 1GB of DDR SDRAM, as well as a CompactFlash slot, says Portwell. The seven-inch 800 x 480 LTPS TFT display features a 16:9 widescreen design with backlighting, says the company.

While the PARD-S071TW offers resistive touch input, as well as Wi-Fi, the company also sells a touchscreen-only PARD-S071T model, as well as a barebones PARD-S071 model with neither option.

The PARD-S071TW and its siblings provide a 10/100 Ethernet port, four USB 2.0 ports, and three serial ports, one of which appears to be an internal interface, judging by the photo above. Other I/O includes a VGA port, audio ports, and a PS/2 port, says Portwell.

Operating temperatures can range from 32 to 113 deg. F (0 to 45 deg. C), says the company. Supported operating systems are said to include Linux, QNX, Windows XP Embedded, and Windows CE.
