Apr 17, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Total Impact has upgraded the speed and memory capacity of its small Linux system known as the “briQ”, while simultaneously reducing the system's power consumption. The latest version of the CDROM-sized system boasts an 800MHz IBM PowerPC 750FX processor with up to 1 Gigabytes SDRAM, dual 10/100 Mbit Ethernet ports, and up to 60 Gigabytes… built-in hard drive capacity, but with a power consumption of less the 15W (at 800MHz), the company said.

Specs and feature include . . .

  • 800 MHz PowerPC 750FX processor
  • 100MHz 64-bit system bus
  • Up to 1 Gigabyte of SDRAM
  • Dual 10/100 Base Ethernet support
  • 64-bit 66MHz PCI Bus
  • Programmable VFD display
  • Up to 60 Gigabyte hard drive
  • RS-232 interface
  • Yellow Dog Linux 3.0 Operating System
  • Remote Management

Typical uses for the briQ are said to include high-density computing clusters, firewalls, routers, webservers, and “demanding industrial control and communications” applications.

Single unit pricing starts at around $1,400, based on various options such as CPU speed, memory, dual network interface, and disk drive capacity.
