Advantech announced a fanless embedded automation computer that offers two PCI slots for expansion. The UNO-3072LA is equipped with an Intel Atom N270 clocked at 1.6GHz, and offers CompactFlash and SATA storage, a DVI-I port, two serial ports, two gigabit Ethernet ports, and five USB 2.0 ports, says the company.

The UNO-3072LA is the latest in a long line of Advantech's UNO-branded automation computers, including the Intel Core 2 Duo based UNO-3084 announced in May. Said to be suitable for a variety of machine automation applications, the new UNO-3072LA model opts for the slower, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. This helps the computer cut power consumption in half compared to the UNO-3084: Even when both PCI slots are populated, power consumption is claimed to be just 20 Watts.

The UNO-3072LA ships with 1GB of DDR2 RAM, upgradable to 2GB, and offers CompactFlash and SATA storage, each provided in both external and internal connections, says Advantech. A shock-protected SATA hard disk drive (HDD) bracket is also supplied, says the company.

The UNO-3072LA offers dual gigabit Ethernet ports, both with wake-on-LAN and other special features (see spec table below). The computer provides up to seven USB 2.0 ports total. It ships standard with four external USB ports and one internal one that can be loaded with an encryption device for security, says the company. In additional two more USB ports are available via internal pin headers.

Serial I/O is similarly expandable, with the standard dual RS-232/422/485 ports augmented by two optional internal RS-232 ports via pin headers. Other I/O includes a DVI-I port and audio out, says Advantech. The system also features I/O programmable LED indicators, says the company.

The UNO-3072LA is designed with a selectable AT/ATX power mode that does not require internal adjustment efforts, claims Advantech. The 9.3 x 7.0 x 6.2-inch aluminum box supports temperatures from 14 to 140 deg. F, and offers shock and vibration protection, says the company.

The UNO-3072LA ships with a pre-configured image with optimized onboard device drivers, for Advantech Embedded Linux, Windows CE 6.0 R2, Windows XP Embedded, and Windows Embedded Standard (WES), says Advantech. Binary drivers are also said to be available for other Linux distributions, as well as QNX. In addition, the UNO-3072LA offers a built-in Advantech DiagAnywhere agent on Windows CE/XPe for remote monitoring, says the company.
