Real-time Linux RTOS, tools support quad-PPC VME-bus board

The combination targets communication- and processing-intensive applications such as digital signal processing (DSP) for software radio, communications, medical imaging, and… radar/sonar systems.

TimeSys says a “ready-to-run” Linux RTOS Software Development Kit (SDK) is now available for Pentek's Model 4294 Quad AltiVec 6U VME Board.
The Pentek Model 4294 features four identical processor nodes containing interface and memory resources ideally matching the I/O characteristics of the MPC7410 G4 PowerPC, according to Pentek. Each node is coupled to every other node, and to a wealth of high-performance mezzanine modules, system interfaces, and peripherals found in leading edge real-time embedded computer systems.
The TimeSys package includes a single-kernel Linux real-time operating system, certified device drivers, Windows- and Linux-hosted cross-platform GNU tool chains, hundreds of Linux utilities and libraries, and the GUI-based development tool, TimeStorm IDE.
"More of our customers are now using Linux as their embedded operating system of choice," said Rodger Hosking, vice president of Pentek, Inc.
"Developers of high-end electronic systems are rapidly turning to Linux for cost and performance reasons," said TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman.
Availability
The TimeSys Linux RTOS SDK and TimeStorm tools for the Pentek Model 4294 VME Board are priced at $4,049 per seat and are available now.
Pentek's Model 4294 Quad PowerPC Processor is available immediately, with prices staring at $15,995.
