Reference card summarizes embedded Linux development commands
Feb 23, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsEmbedded Linux author and trainer Karim Yaghmour, and his company Opersys, have released an embedded Linux “Quick Reference Guide” (QRG) designed to help designers build embedded systems from open source GNU/Linux sources. The QRG is distributed as a two-page PDF file intended for printing on both sides of a standard-sized sheet of paper, and is meant to remind embedded developers of the syntax for… frequently used commands.
Karim Yaghmour, QRG author, is CEO of Opersys and the author of O'Reilly's Building Embedded Linux Systems. According to Yaghmour, the guide covers commands used to:
- Build a GNU toolchain
- Configure and package a kernel
- Create and customize a root filesystem
- Debug remote targets
- Use and configure U-Boot
Yaghmour said: “While there are quite a few vendors selling very restrictive and expensive distributions to embedded developers seeking to use Linux in their embedded systems, the fact of the matter is that all the components required to build an embedded Linux system are freely available on the Internet. What is needed is an understanding of how to package the various components together to create a customized embedded Linux system. For the past five years, Opersys has successfully helped its clients do just that.”
Opersys' quick reference guide is available online. It can be downloaded free for personal use, and Yaghmour invites those interested in bulk distribution to contact Opersys.
