Axiomtek is readying a rugged, fanless DIN-rail computer with redundant components and SNMP-based “AXView” remote management software. The rBOX100 is equipped with the extended-temperature Intel Atom Z510PT and Z520PT processors, and offers gigabit Ethernet, Ethernet, serial, USB 2.0, and DIO connectivity, says the company.

The rBOX100 is said to be especially suited for power plant automation, facility monitoring systems, and intelligent transportation systems. However, it can be used in any extreme environment, especially where maintenance is likely to be infrequent, says Axiomtek.

Extended temperature support is assisted by the use of the industrial-temperature grade Intel Atom Z510PT (1.1GHz) or Z520PT (1.33GHz) processors, joined by the accompanying SCH US15WPT chipset, says Axiomtek. The computer offers a single 200-pin DDR2 memory socket, presumably accepting a maximum 2GB of RAM (this point is not addressed in the otherwise detailed data sheet). A CompactFlash socket is also said to be provided.

The rBOX100 is equipped with both a gigabit Ethernet port and a 10/100 Ethernet port for redundant backup, with both offering magnetic isolation protection, says Axiomtek. Two USB 2.0 ports and two RS232/422/485 COM ports are also supplied, along with one 8-in/out DIO and a VGA port, says the company. A watchdog timer is also said to be available.

The 5.31 x 4.33 x 3.18-inch (135 x 110 x 81mm), DIN-rail mountable box is built of aluminum extrusion and heavy-duty steel, and weighs 2.2 pounds (1 kg), says Axiomtek. The rBOX100 offers accessible I/O cabling, and is equipped with redundant power inputs and a terminal block for its 12 ~ 48VDC power supply, says the company.

The computer is IP30-rated for ingress protection, and supports operating temperatures of -40 to 158 deg. F (-40 to 70 deg. C), says the company. The product is said to meet "Safety Agency" requirements such as UL 1604 compliance, and has passed heavy industrial EMI/EMS testing.

The rBOX100 is available with preinstalled versions of Linux, Windows CE 6.0, or Windows XP Embedded, says Axiomtek. The system ships with an AXView software package, enabling system administrators to set up, manage, and monitor remote computers. Based on SNMP protocols, AXView includes management utilities, agent services, and libraries, says the company.
