Logic Supply announced a rugged, fanless industrial computer that uses an Intel Celeron or Core i5/i7 processor and withstands temperatures of -4 to 13 deg. F. In addition to the Extended Temperature AU912, which features SATA and PCIe expansion plus extensive I/O, Logic Supply announced two Extreme Environment PT computers that support -40 to 158 deg. F temperatures: a PT110 (Atom N270) and PT901 (Core 2 Duo).

The 10.55 x 7.68 x 4.33-inch Extended Temperature AU912 resists shocks of 20G (11ms duration) and is protected against damage due to grease, dust, or dirt exposure, says Logic Supply. It's also said to run on only 60 Watts of power and feature -4 to 13 deg. F (-20 to 55 deg. C) temperature support.

For more extreme environments, Logic Supply has also announced two somewhat similar Extreme Environment PT models that work from -40 to 158 deg. F. For more on the PT110 (Atom N270) and PT901 (Core 2 Duo), see farther below.

The AU912 uses Intel's QM57 chipset, accepts up to 8GB of memory, and supports Intel Celeron or Core i5/i7 processors, according to Logic Supply. Intel Active Management Technology allows remote service and system recovery, the company adds.

Extensive expansion and storage features include a CompactFlash slot and a SIM slot, both front-facing. There are also dual SATA connectors, with room for an optional  2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD). In addition, the computer offers both a PCI Express (PCIe) x16 and x1 slot, as well as a Mini PCI Express slot that can be fitted with an optional 802.11n card.

Video is supported via both VGA and DisplayPort connectors, and audio I/O is also available, says Logic Supply. The AU912 is said to offer dual gigabit Ethernet ports, as well as eight USB 2.0 ports, with four of them facing front. There are also four serial ports, a front-facing PS/2 port, and a choice of either digital I/O or a parallel port.

Unlike the Ubuntu-ready Extreme Environment PT systems, the Au912 ships with only Windows XP Pro, Windows Embedded Standard, and Windows 7 — but considering this is promoted as a barebone system with numerous options available, we imagine an OS-free version can be purchased to enable a Linux installation.

Extreme Environment PT Series

The two rugged Extreme Environment PT Series computers differ considerably in processor and I/O details from the AU912 and from each other. Both systems support an industrial temperature range of -40 to 158 deg. F (-40 to 70 deg. C), as well as ruggedization features similar to that of the AU912. They are also said to offer support for Ubuntu Linux 10.04, Windows XP, and Windows 7.

The Extreme Environment PT110 is built on a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 with 1GB DDR2 wide temperature range memory, says Logic Supply. The computer offers a CompactFlash slot, SATA ports, and a 2.5-inch HDD or SSD enclosure, says the company.

DVI-D and VGA outputs are available for video, says Logic Supply. Other I/O is said to include dual gigabit Ethernet ports, three RS-232 ports, and six USB 2.0 ports.

The Extreme Environment PT901, meanwhile, supports a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile P8400 processor. It offers 2GB wide-temperature DDR2 memory and a CompactFlash slot, says Logic Supply.

The computer features a chassis that appears similar to the AU912, and supports an onboard 2.5-inch HDD via one of the two SATA connectors. Video is supported via DVI-D, VGA, and DisplayPort options, says the company.

PCI and PCIe expansion are said to be available, and other I/O includes a dual gigabit Ethernet ports, eight USB 2.0 ports, and four serial ports. (For more information on the Extreme Environment PT computers, see the links below.)
