SOHO server appliance runs Debian ARM Linux

The ASR-7110 is based on a 400MHz ARM9 processor, and comes with a complete Debian Linux-based server software stack.

Embedian describes the ASR-7110 as a stylish, quiet, low-power device that is easy to set up and use as a “universal server station.” It can be customized with thousands of user-installable Debian ARM applications, the company says, but comes ready for use as a SOHO office server appliance, with preinstalled applications that include:
- Web: PHP5, MySQL5, and an SSL-enabled build of Apache2
- Email: Postfix, Authsasld, Dovecot, and Mailman
- Windows and Unix file/print sharing: Samba and NFS
- Also: Bind DNS daemon, and print, ftp, and proxy servers

The ASR-7110 is based on Embedian's APC-711x board (depicted at right), which is also available separately in eight variations. The 3.5-inch board is based on a Samsung S3C2440A SoC (system-on-chip), and has 128MB of SDRAM soldered onboard.

The ASR-7110 appliance comes with a 2.5-inch hard drive sized from 40GB to 120GB. I/O includes a 10/100 Ethernet port, a serial console port on an RJ-45 jack, 4 USB 1.1 host ports, a USB 1.1 device port, and audio I/O. The appliance measures 8.3 x 4.3 x 1.8 inches (210 x 110 x 45mm) and has a 1mm thick steel case.
Availability
The ASR-7110 is available now, priced at about $320. Also available is a kernel source tree and a user discussion forum.
