Standards-based HA architecture boasts single-digit mS failovers

Feb 24, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

(PR excerpt) — Performance Technologies has introduced the Redundant Host Product Line, which is claimed to be the industry's fastest, standards-based failover architecture for high availability (HA), “always-on” embedded systems. The architecture, which targets mission critical military and time-sensitive communications applications, is intended to enable the shortening of failover time from seconds to… single digit milliseconds.

Performance Technologies' Redundant Host products improve upon the company's revolutionary Redundant System Slot HA architecture by offering support for both CompactPCI and PICMG 2.16. For PICMG 2.16-based designs, the Redundant Host products simplify failover design and reduce latency. The products are based Ziatech's Redundant Host Software Development Kit (RHSDK), ZT 5524e Single Board Computer, and ZT 5585e Platform, which are the first products to be based on the Redundant Host aspect of the PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group (PICMG) 2.12 standard.

In the coming months, the Performance Technologies plans on integrating the Redundant Host software into its NexusWare Linux-based development and operating environment. The Redundant Host Product Line is available immediately with support for both Linux and VxWorks.
