TimeSys ships first Carrier Grade Linux 2.0 registered distro

TimeSys has delivered on its earlier commitment to ship a Linux distribution compliant with version 2.0 of the Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) specification by Q3 of this year. The company says that in doing so, it is the first Linux vendor to ship “CGL-Registered” Linux, and that CGL-Registered TimeSys Linux Distributions are available now for “any PowerPC or x86 platform.”

According to TimeSys, the OSDL's Carrier Grade Linux Requirements Definition, version 2.0.1 specifies “major advances” in security, high availability, and clustering — technologies valuable in industrial control, defense, and aerospace, as well as telecom.

TimeSys promised in June to ship a version of Linux compliant with the Open Source Development Lab Carrier Grade Linux (CGL) 2.0 specification “before September,” saying it expected to be among the first CGL 2.0 suppliers. OSDL CEO Stuart Cohen confirms the company's leadership role, commenting, “We are very pleased to see TimeSys as the first vendor to achieve CGL-Registered status.”

TimeSys CEO Larry Weidman adds, “TimeSys has been at the forefront of real-time development for more than three years, as evidenced by the over 10,000 downloads of our freely available 2.4 Linux distributions with real-time enhancements for all popular architectures.”

In addition to Linux operating systems, TimeSys markets Eclipse-based TimeStorm development and testing tools said to work with “any Linux.”
