Touchscreen PC is designed for outdoor mounting
Oct 30, 2009 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 4 viewsAxiomtek has introduced a 12.1-inch touchscreen computer designed to be mounted outdoors, in kitchens, or onboard ships. The fanless GOT-812 includes a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor, up to 2GB of RAM, two serial ports, gigabit Ethernet, and a PCI Express Mini Card slot, the company says.
Axiomtek's new GOT-812 (right) includes very similar ingredients to a panel PC, the GOT-5120T-830, introduced by the company earlier this month. For example, it uses Intel's familiar, 1.6GHz Atom N270 processor, with the usual 945GSE northbridge and ICH7M southbridge, and sports a 12.1-inch touchscreen with a relatively low resolution of 800 x 600 pixels.
Where the GOT-5120T-830 was designed for in-wall mounting, however, the GOT-812 is intended for free-standing use. Axiomtek says the device's stainless steel housing is IP65-rated for resistance to water, powder, and dust, as are the unit's six-rear panel ports. As a result, the device may be installed in outdoor environments, in kitchens or food factories, or onboard ships, the company claims.
Axiomtek adds that when ordered with an 800-nit screen, the GOT-812 is readily operable even in bright sunlight. The system is said to have a readily accessible brightness adjuster, plus a switch (below right) to turn its backlighting on and off. The device may either be suspended via the mount pictured below, or attached to a VESA-compatible bracket, according to the company.

According to Axiomtek, the GOT-812 includes two SODIMM slots, said to accept up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, while operating system and data storage is provided either by a CompactFlash slot or by a 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive. When CompactFlash storage is employed, the panel PC is said to withstand vibration of up to 3Grms while it is operating.
