The Slovakian company Elcom has introduced an all-in-one PC targeting kiosk, point-of-sale, and medical applications. The Uniq PC includes a 15-inch display with a resistive or capacitive touchscreen, a 1.6GHz Intel Atom processor with fanless operation, hard disk or solid state storage, and optional antibacterial coating, the company says.

Elcom says its Uniq PC differs from all-in-one PCs that weren't designed for commercial operation in a variety of ways. First among these is said to be the fact that the system has rubber-protected corners and sides, and meets IP54 standards for resistance to liquids and dust. In addition, an antibacterial coating is optionally available, the company adds.

According to Elcom, the Uniq PC has a 15-inch screen with 1024 x 768 pixel resolution. The system is offered with either resistive or capacitive touchscreens, including a "vandalproof" option.

The Uniq PC uses the extremely familiar Intel Atom N270 processor, along with the usual 945GSE northbridge/ICH7M southbridge and the ability to accept up to 2GB of RAM. The Uniq is said to support Linux, Windows XP Embedded, or Windows CE.

The passively cooled Uniq is available with hard disk drives ranging from 80GB to 250GB in size, or, for greater shock resistance, SSD (solid state disks), says Elcom. The system includes three USB ports, an Ethernet port (maximum data rate not specified), a serial port, and a parallel port.

Wireless local area networking and Bluetooth are also said to be available options. Elcom did not say whether these connect via USB or are offered as internal modules, however.
