Avalue announced a 12.1-inch touchscreen PC targeting marine applications. The LPC-1203 features a sealed front panel, a LED-backlit display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels, and CompactFlash or hard disk storage, according to the company.

Avalue's LPC-1203 (right) is yet another device employing the evergreen, 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor, along with the usual 945GSE northbridge and ICH7M southbridge. However, the panel PC's computing guts are said to be provided by the EBM-945GSE, an 8 x 5.75-inch module (pictured below). This fact could allow the device to be upgraded to alternative processors in the future, the company suggests.

According to Avalue, the EBM-945GSE comes with 1GB of soldered-on DDR2 memory, plus a 200-pin SODIMM slot that can accept an additional IGB. A module-based socket accepts a Type I/II CompactFlash card, while the overall LPC-1203 provides room for a 2.5-inch hard disk drive (either SATA or IDE) too.

Avalue says the LPC-1203 has a resistive touchscreen display with a diagonal measurement of 12.1 inches and a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. The screen has a 450-nit brightness rating and a 1000:1 contrast ratio, the company adds.

It's said the LPC-1203's front bezel meets IP65 standards for sealing against water and dust, and has a power button that has been covered by a waterproof membrane. Avalue adds that the fanless device has "unique" I/O connectors that also resist water better than those on other panel PCs.

The system's ports (above) obviously derive directly from the edge of the EBM-945GSE, with no intervening cables, and include a VGA output, dual gigabit Ethernet ports, two USB ports, a line output, and a serial port. One serial port is included, and Avalue lists six COMs as an available option (there's no word on how they'd be connected to the outside world, however.)

According to Avalue, the LPC-1203 includes a Mini PCI slot, while a Mini PCI Express slot is an available option. Wireless networking may be added to the system via USB, the company adds.
