Trolltech has partnered with mobile phone application vendor Teleca. The two companies will jointly create and market a mobile phone software reference design based on Trolltech's Qtopia graphics framework and Teleca's Obigo applications suite, which includes products for browsing, messaging, content management, media playback, and DRM (digital rights management).

Teleca describes itself as an R&D-focused developer and integrator of software. It has more than 3,000 employees, and operations in 16 countries.

Teleca offers Obigo as an off-the-shelf product for Linux, although it says the stack can be integrated with “any OS, hardware, or network.” Obigo has shipped in about 300 million phones worldwide, the company claims.

Obigo for Linux supports Linux 2.4 and newer kernels, and graphics frameworks that include Trolltech's Qt/Embedded 2.3.x, and Qtopia Phone Edition. Obigo includes:

Additionally, Teleca offers Obigo services that include analysis, integration, customization, certification, and interoperability testing. It also offers more general embedded Linux services, including Linux ports to new hardware, Bluetooth integration, and PC connectivity software integration.

Trolltech CEO Haavard Nord stated, “This partnership reinforces our ability to meet the increasing need of handset manufacturers for customization.”

Trolltech and Teleca will present their reference implementation at the 3GSM Congress next week in Barcelona.
