Wasabi to offer NetBSD-based “storage solution kits”

Feb 20, 2003 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 views

Wasabi Systems is developing a set of software components for developers of storage applications, according to a statement released this week at the Intel Developer Forum.

The new “storage solution kits” will be based on Wasabi's port of NetBSD, which the company says it has optimized and enhanced for storage applications. The kits will include “tools for rapid creation of network based storage appliances, including SAN products utilizing the iSCSI protocol intelligent IP-based storage adaptors, to offer an end-to-end solution that complements Intel hardware building blocks,” Wasabi said.

Building on NetBSD's respected TCP/IP implementation, the component product line will include IPv4, IPv6, IPsec, zero-copy on write, checksum offload capabilities, and an extensive series of additional optimizations to device drivers and virtual memory systems.

The initial product releases, Storage Builder for NAS and Storage Builder for iSCSI, will be available by mid-year 2003. Initial deployment will be on Intel IA-32 (“x86”) and XScale processors, and will include the Intel IOP310 and IOP321 I/O processors. Additional products will follow later in the year.
