Webinar explores MIPS processor architecture
Feb 19, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsSemiconductor supplier PMC-Sierra will promote the MIPS architecture in a Webinar to be held Wed., Feb. 25 at 11AM PST / 2PM EST. Entitled “Why Use MIPS?”, the Webinar will explain how, as an open standard architecture available from multiple chip and core suppliers, MIPS is the semiconductor industry's “equivalent of Linux.”
The Webinar will be presented by PMC-Sierra VP Tom Riorda, one of the pioneers of the original MIPS architecture and a 25 year veteran of the microprocessor industry.
The Webinar will provide an overview of the MIPS architecture and instruction set, and explore topics such as:
- MIPS is an Open Standard
- Multiple chip suppliers
- Multiple core suppliers (for SOC applications)
- Multiple operating systems
- Multiple compilers
- RISC Architecture (better performance)
- Scalability of architecture from multiple vendors
- Performance vs CISC
- Main competitive RISC instruction sets: ARM, Power PC
- Benefits of MIPS-based processors
- Demonstrated Success
- Cisco Networking Equipment
- HP LaserJet Printers
- Sony PlayStation
- Live Q&A
