Workshops on Real-Time and QoS technology

Oct 12, 2000 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Pittsburgh, PA — (press release excerpt) — TimeSys Corporation will present two Real-Time and Quality of Service Technology (QoS) workshops for the public in November and December. The workshops, previously presented only to government groups and large corporations, will be in San Francisco and Philadelphia. The workshops target key system architects and developers and will be taught by four key TimeSys Corporation professionals who have provided leadership for some of the largest and most critical real-time systems and research efforts for many years.

The two three-day workshops will be held Nov. 14-16 in San Francisco, and Dec. 6-8, in Philadelphia. Each three-day workshop consists of three sessions:

  • Principles of Building Real-Time Systems — This full day session covers the fundamentals of software performance prediction and analysis. It provides the architect or developer with a practical approach to specify, develop, analyze and deploy complex software systems that will meet a wide variety of response and throughput requirements.

  • Meeting Your Timing Requirements Using TimeSys TimeWiz and TimeWiz for Rational Rose/RT — This session will show, using TimeWiz, how one can build a model of the system under development, then analyze it for timeliness. TimeWiz is a design and analysis tool based on RMA and its extensions for analyzing and designing real-time systems. In addition, it can simulate the analysis model to generate statistical information about a system. The analysis and simulations results are visualized using advanced plotting and reporting capabilities. TimeWiz is customizable and extensible to allow users to develop custom objects, properties, etc., to accurately model their systems. Use of a programming API to extend TimeWiz capabilities can develop new analysis models.

  • TimeSys Linux/RT in Embedded Real-Time and Quality of Service (QoS) Systems — This full-day session will provide a complete overview of how the TimeSys Linux/RT distribution is used to build systems with embedded, real-time or QoS requirements. Topics covered in detail include CPU reservations, real-time scheduling policies, real-time synchronization support, including priority inheritance, the use of high-resolutions timers and clocks, and the creation of periodic processes. TimeSys Linux/RT utilities, including the seamless addition of real-time and guaranteed QoS behavior to applications, with no changes to source code, will be demonstrated. Tools used for performance measurement and building TimeSys Linux/RT programs will be discussed.
Pricing for Sessions 1 and 2 is $995. Pricing for Sessions 1, 2, and 3 is $1195. Register for the San Francisco three-day workshop by 10/24/00 or the Philadelphia three-day workshop by 11/9/00, and receive a $100 discount.

How to Register: Call 1-888-432-TIME, Ext. 208, or Fax 1-412-681-5522.
