Linux in industry: GSM Base stations remote monitoring

Ultra d.o.o. used embedded Linux to realize a 70 percent cost reduction in its remote monitoring system for GSM base stations. The PC/104-based systems enable remote dial-up or Internet access, replacing a less functional desktop PC. The system uses modularized hardware and software components, and brings new capacities for remote diagnostics and upgrades, according to Ultra. (more…)

AMES d.o.o. will use embedded Linux and other open source technology in its ADVA User Experiment, an attempt to build an urban environment monitoring system in Slovenia. Currently, the company's industrial embedded systems (IESs) are based on Windows. However, technical and licensing issues have lead users to encourage the company to adopt open source software. Networking capabilities were needed to meet new waste management and taxation laws.
