Wind River reported better-than-forecast financial results for its first quarter of fiscal 2005, citing a healthier economy, improving execution, and a strategic move to a dual-OS approach including embedded Linux. Businesses, not hobbyists, are the main contributors to embedded Linux, yet open source participation is growing as companies discover the benefits of shared development. Black Duck has launched two services to help commercial software developers, enterprise buyers, and Linux developers manage software intellectual property (IP). LynuxWorks has closed its books for fiscal 2004, announcing 21 percent year-over-year revenue growth, increased profitability and cash flow, and 165 percent design win growth, especially in the military/aerospace market. Sysgo has achieved a major new release of its ELinOS embedded Linux development tool suite. Communications continued as the strongest market for “merchant” embedded computer boards in 2003, according to market analysis firm VDC. Total embedded computer board shipments totalled $2.2 billion, divided primarily between communications (38%), industrial (21%), military (15%), and medical (12%), according to VDC's 2002/2003 Embedded Merchant Computer Board Market Intelligence Program.
