Device Profile: AKCP CameraProbe8 data center security monitor

AKCP has used embedded Linux to build a data center security monitor that can track both physical and network-related events. The CameraProbe8 has an integral low-light pan-and-tilt camera, and supports up to eight environmental sensors. It also runs network service monitoring software. Opera eyes IP-STB market with browser for TV displays

Opera Software has optimized its web browser for IP-STBs (Internet protocol set-top boxes) and other embedded Linux systems with television displays. Opera's “TV Rendering” (TVR) technology cleans up pixelation and problematic colors, it says, to bring a “full Web” experience to IP-STB and iTV (Internet television) users. (more…)

Thin client vendor adds multimedia, Kerberos to embedded Linux OS

IGEL Technology has updated its embedded Linux thin client OS with new multimedia capabilities and security features. IGEL says its Embedded Flash Linux now supports the latest, more multimedia-capable version of the Citrix protocol, along with single sign-on Kerberos authentication. (more…)

Hostile binary analysis tool adds embedded, Linux support

DataRescue SA has revised its interactive disassembler, debugger, and binary analysis tool, adding a Linux hosted console version and better support for ARM and other embedded architectures, including custom processors. PCI-free Ethernet chip targets multimedia streaming devices

SMSC has introduced its second-generation 10/100 Mbps “non-PCI” Ethernet controller, designed for use with simple embedded processors that lack a PCI bus. New standard targets $1.7 billion USB flash market

DeviceForge has published an intriguing story about a next-generation USB Flash drive standard being co-developed by arch-rivals M-Systems and SanDisk.
