Touchpanel PC boots Linux in two seconds

Technologic Systems is readying a rugged WVGA touchpanel PC based on a fast-booting ARM9-based single board computer (SBC). The TS-TPC-7390 Touch Panel Computer incorporates the Debian Linux-based TS-7390 SBC, which is equipped with a 200MHz ARM9 CPU from Cirrus and a Lattice FPGA (field-programmable gate array). (more…)

Google shows off Android goodies

Via unveils “Nano” processors

Via Technologies has announced the first processors based on its new x86-compatible “Isaiah” micro-architecture. The “Nano” processors are pin-compatible with Via's existing C7 processor family, and occupy similar power and footprint envelopes, while doubling or quadrupling performance, Via claims. (more…)

SIP application server runs on Linux

Nortel announced a carrier-grade application server aimed at providers of broadband SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) voice and other IP-based services. The Nortel Adaptive Application Engine (AAE) runs on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), and provides Web 2.0 services such as social networking along with IP voice and multimedia, says Nortel. (more…)

$7 ARM9 SoC gains development support

Timesys is offering a LinuxLink subscription for Atmel's ARM9-based AT91SAM9G20 system-on-chip (SoC). The subscription includes a 2.6.25 Linux kernel, toolchain, and hundreds of glibC and uClibc packages optimized for the low-power $7 SoC, says Timesys. (more…)

Configurable $6 65nm ARM9 chip runs Linux

STMicroelectronics (STM) has announced an ARM9-based SoC (system-on-chip) that comes with a Linux development board, and targets printers, scanners, and digital picture frames. The “SPEAr Basic” has an ARM926EJ-S core, a 300Kgate customizable logic array, and 10/100 Ethernet, USB, serial, IrDA interfaces, the company says. (more…)

Via Technologies has unveiled a Linux-compatible miniature notebook reference design boasting an 8.9-inch screen, interchangeable local and wide area networking modules, and a “dual-headed” video camera.
