Access revs Linux browser for smart devices

Jul 7, 2004 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — views

Access has released a new version of its browser for Linux devices, along with a new SDK (software development kit) for UI (user interface) development. The SDK supports both the GTK+ and Qt/Embedded application environments under Linux, and targets mobile phones, PDAs, set-top boxes, digital television, and automobile telematics.

NetFront v3.2 features include:

  • Rapid-Render, said to accelerate the presentation of Web pages by displaying pages incrementally as they download
  • Smart-Fit Rendering, to fit pages to small device screens.
  • Dynamic Menu, a UI framework that brings DHTML (dynamic HTML) to mobile devices.
  • Macromedia Flash
  • XHTML+Voice

According to Access, the NetFront v3.2 SDK simplifies UI creation and deployment by enabling developers to create one UI, and automatically adapt it to differing screen sizes and formats, such as stylus, keyboard, 10-key pad, mouse, touch panel, or remote control input methods. The SDK supports target devices running Linux GTK+, Linux QT/Embedded, and ITRON.
