Atom-powered CPU card has PISA connectors

Jun 29, 2011 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 views

Ibase announced a half-size CPU card that combines Intel's popular Atom N270 processor with seldom-seen PISA connectors. The IB825 includes up to 2GB of RAM, two SATA ports, two gigabit Ethernet ports, four serial ports, and a Mini PCI Express slot, the company says.

Ibase's IB825 CPU card is one of a zillion products using Intel's Atom N270 processor, along with the 945GSE northbridge and ICH7M southbridge. At the same time, it's one of very, very few employing the PISA format introduced by Kontron back in 1996.

The 7.32 x 5.08-inch board includes ISA and PCI connectors, stacked one over the other, and also includes onboard PCI-to-ISA bridge circuitry, according to Ibase. It has a DIMM slot accepting up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, plus two SATA ports and a Mini PCI Express expansion slot, according to the company.

Ibase says the board's edge bracket provides access to two gigabit Ethernet ports, a PS/2 port, a USB port with Type A connector, and a VGA output. Headers, meanwhile, add LVDS video, four more USB 2.0 ports, four serial ports (one RS232 and three RS232/422/485), a parallel port, a second PS/2 port, and four digital I/Os.

The company doesn't specify target applications or operating system support for the IB825, though the device should be compatible with "leaning towers" and pretty much any x86 OS. It does say the card works on either 5V or 12V power, and in temperatures ranging from 32 to 140 deg. F.

Specifications listed by Ibase for the IB825 include:
