PICMG board offers Atom, two gigabit ports
Jul 10, 2009 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 1 viewsIbase has announced a PICMG 1.0-compatible CPU card that includes a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N270 processor. The IB827 offers one IDE port and two SATA II interfaces, a CompactFlash slot, LVDS and VGA video outputs, four serial ports, and two gigabit Ethernet ports, the company says.
Ibase's new IB827 CPU card, measuring 13.3 by 4.8 inches, follows the PICMG (PCI Industrial Manfacturers Group) 1.0 standard, which adapted PCI to passive backplane implementations. Generally found in telecom, industrial automation, military, and medical applications, PICMG 1.0 defines pin-outs for the ISA (original PC/AT bus) and parallel PCI buses to the backplane. (PICMG 1.3, not featured here, substitutes PCI Express for the parallel buses.)
The first Intel Atom-powered PICMG card to cross our paths, the IB827 uses the 1.6GHz Atom N270, along with the usual 945GSE northbridge and ICH7M southbridge. The components used also include the ITE IT8888G PCI-to-ISA bridge chip, a Winbond W83627EHG multi I/O chip, and two Realtek 8111C PCI Express gigabit LAN chips, according to Ibase.

The board also features connectors for a floppy disk drive, four serial ports (three RS232, one RS232/422/485), seven USB 2.0 ports, audio, and a parallel port. On the edge of the board, and hence accessible when it is installed in a card cage, are two RJ45 connectors for gigabit Ethernet, a VGA output, and a PS/2 connector for a keyboard and mouse.
Finally, the IB827 has a CompactFlash slot and — not visible above because it's on the back of the board — a Mini PCI Express slot, says Ibase.
Features and specifications listed by Ibase for the IB827 include the following:

Availability
Ibase did not provide pricing and availability information for the IB827, but the board appears to be on sale now. Also left unstated were details of operating system support, but the familiar Intel chipset used here suggests that the device is compatible with Linux, Windows XP Embedded, and most other x86 operating systems. More information about the IB827 may be found on the Ibase website, here.
