3.5-inch SBC offers choice of Pineview Atoms

Ibase released a 3.5-inch single board computer (SBC) built around the single-core Intel Atom N450 or dual-core Atom D510. The Ibase IB891 SBC offers two gigabit Ethernet ports, eight USB 2.0 ports, four serial ports, and dual-display capability, says the company.

The Ibase IB891 is aimed at graphics and multimedia intensive applications including digital signage, POS (point of sale), kiosks, automation, and other fanless and low-noise embedded devices, says Ibase.

Using the "3.5-inch" format that actually measures 5.8 x 4.0 inches (147 x 102mm), the SBC comes with a choice of two Intel Atom "Pineview" processors — the single-core N450 or the dual-core D510. Fanless, heat-sink-only designs are supported when using the N450, says the company.

Both "Pineview" Atom processors offer integrated memory controllers and graphics cores, the latter clocked at 200MHz for the N450 and 400MHz  for the D510, notes Ibase. Intel's graphics engine supports DirectX 9 and OpenGL 1.4, the company adds.

Equipped with up to 2GB of DDR2 memory via a single SODIMM, the SBC also offers a CompactFlash socket, says Ibase. Dual SATA II interfaces are said to be supplied for more substantial storage, and a Mini-PCI Express (PCIe) slot can be used for wireless LAN or TV-tuner modules, says the company.

The IB891 supports dual displays via an 18-bit, single-channel LVDS interface and a VGA port, Ibase says. Other interfaces include two gigabit Ethernet ports, eight USB 2.0 ports, four serial ports, and digital I/O. A watchdog timer and a two-Watt amplifier are also said to be supplied.

Specifications listed for the IB891 include:

  • Processor — Supports Intel Atom N450 or dual-core Atom D510, both at 1.66GHz
  • Chipset — n/s, but is likely ICH8-M
  • Memory — Up to 2GB via 1x DDR2 SODIMM
  • Flash expansion — 1 x CompactFlash socket
  • Storage — 2 x SATA II
  • Expansion — 1 x Mini PCIe
  • Display:
    • VGA CRT port edge connector
    • 18-bit single channel LVDS interface
    • Supports dual display (CRT/LVDS)
  • Networking — 2 x gigabit Ethernet
  • Other I/O:
    • 8 x USB 2.0
    • 4 x COM
    • Digital I/O
  • Audio — HD audio, 2 Watt amplifier on board
  • Other features — Watchdog timer
  • Cooling — Fanless solution with heat sink (N450)

Availability

According to Ibase, the IB891 SBC has been "released." However, at press-time there was no web page dedicated to the board. Operating system support details were not supplied.

More information should eventually appear on the company's SBC page, here.
