Boston hosts Open Source Business Conference on Nov. 1-2

The Open Source Business Conference, set for Nov. 1-2, 2005 in Boston, will explore Linux- and open source-related business topics, including emerging trends, intellectual property, and other issues. The second annual event targets IT business executives, venture capitalists, attorneys, and others using open source software in enterprise or embedded systems.

The OSBC was founded last year by Matt Asay, who works in Novell's open source business unit. Asay formerly served as GM of embedded Linux specialist Lineo, which was acquired by Metrowerks in December 2002. Asay last year contributed an editorial to LinuxDevices about why he founded the event.

“Though OSBC was founded with an enterprise focus, it's becoming increasingly difficult to demarcate where the enterprise ends and embedded begins. As such, we're looking forward to the insight that industry veterans from embedded will bring to OSBC2005,” said Asay, earlier this year.

Sessions will discuss the following topics, among others:

  • “Bill and Steve's Excellent Adventure: Microsoft Opens Up to Open Source”
  • “The Next Open Source Tidal Wave: Business Intelligence Software”
  • “Linux, the Data Center, and Security”
  • “Open Source, Grids, and the Next-Generation Data Center”
  • “Open Source and Web 2.0: The LAMP that Launched a Thousand Startups”
  • “Moving from Apprehension to Appreciation and Adoption — Managing a Mixed IP Environment”
  • “Enforceability of the GPL: The Big Debate”

The two-day event will be held at the Marriott Boston Newton Hotel. You can register online here.
