MSC Vertriebs announced a COM Express Compact module that's available with three different Intel Atom processors. The CXC-PV525 includes up to 4GB of DDR3 memory and an optional 4GB SSD (solid state disk), gigabit Ethernet, three SATA channels, plus support for both CRT and LVDS displays, the company says.

MSC's CXC-PV525 (right) employs the 3.75 x 3.75-inch module format that was first devised by Kontron microETXexpress, and which recently became part of the COM Express Revision 2.0 spec. A data sheet for the device hasn't been released, but MSC says that, among other things, the module offers a 32-bit PCI bus, implying that it employs a Type 2 pinout (below), with dual 220-pin connectors.

According to MSC, the CXC-PV525 is well-suited to automotive applications, because it offers an extended input voltage range of +5V to +18V. The device is also suited to applications demanding "medium computing performance," such as industrial automation, medical, and measurement systems, the company adds.

The CXC-PV525 is said to be available with one of three processors:

• the dual-core Atom D525, with a 1.8GHz clock speed and a 10-Watt TDP
• the single-core Atom D425, with a 1.8GHz clock speed and a 10-Watt TDP
• the single-core Atom N455, with a 1.66Hz clock speed and a 6.5-Watt TDP

Including on-chip graphics, all three CPUs are paired here with the ICH8M I/O controller and up to 4GB of DDR3 memory (via two SODIMM sockets). The CXC-PV525 is optionally available with a 4GB NAND flash SSD, according to MSC.

In addition to the 32-bit PCI bus already mentioned, the CXC-PV525 is also said to include five PCI Express x1 lanes, three SATA channels, gigabit Ethernet, three SATA channels, and an enhanced IDE port. MSC says HD audio is also included, and single or dual displays up to 2048 x 1536 pixels may be connected via the device's CRT and LVDS ports.

Like other COM express modules, the CXC-PV525 requires a separate baseboard to relay its signals to and from the outside world. MSC says it can supply universal baseboards or provide a design service for application-specific boards.
