ESC panel to explore the embedded Linux revolution
Mar 28, 2007 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsEmbedded industry pioneer Jim Ready will lead a 90-minute panel discussion at the Embedded Systems Conference (ESC) next week in San Jose, Calif. Ready's panel discussion is entitled, “The perfect storm: how Linux and Eclipse are revolutionizing embedded software… development.”
Jim Ready in 1999 founded MontaVista, one of the first companies to focus specifically on Linux as an embedded OS. Prior to that, Ready co-founded Ready Systems, which developed the first commercially viable, real-time operating system (RTOS) product — the VRTX real-time kernel.
Together with his ESC panel, Ready will explore how embedded software has “shifted rapidly” from proprietary, closed-source tools and operating systems to open source technologies such as Linux and Eclipse. Additional topics will include:
- How Linux and Eclipse bring “dramatic gains in developer efficiency”
- Current capabilities of Linux as an embedded OS
- Linux's real-time capabilities
- Capabilities of Eclipse-based development tools for Linux
- The latest in Linux run-time analysis tools, such as memory leak detection and performance profiling
The panel will take place at 3:30 P.M. PDT on April 3, at the McEnery Convention Center, Blossom Hill I-Marriot, in San Jose, Calif. Further details on next week's Embedded Systems Conference are available here.
