Registration is open for the fifth annual Gelato ICE (“Itanium Conference and Expo”), the only conference dedicated specifically to Linux on Intel's Itanium architecture. Sponsored by HP, Intel, and the Itanium Solutions Alliance, the conference is set for Apr. 15 through 18, in San Jose, Calif.

Itanium (IA-64) was Intel's first 64-bit architecture. The architecture has attracted widespread interest in the scientific and academic communities, and arguably in the high-performance and supercomputing markets as well. However, the architecture has achieved less widespread adoption than other 64-bit x86 architectures, such as AMD64, x86-64, and EMT.

Organizers promise a heavy emphasis on Linux at this year's event, with a new track focusing on IA-64 Linux kernel work, and presentation topics that include optimization, multi-core programming, virtualization, compilers, and cutting-edge research. Keynote speakers include: Wim Coekaerts, Senior Director for Linux Engineering at Oracle, and Andrew Morton, Maintainer of the Linux 2.6 kernel.
