Hard Hat Linux gets upgraded Java support

Sunnyvale, CA — (press release excerpt) — MontaVista Software Inc. today announced VisualAge Micro Edition 1.4 (VAME) for Hard Hat Linux 2.0. The new VisualAge Micro Edition 1.4 from IBM/OTI is a development and deployment solution for building multi-modal Java applications and the embedded devices that run them.

“The two evolving 'open' software standards, embedded Linux and embedded Java, are ideally suited for developing systems for this converging network and Internet environment,” said Paul Zorfass, senior analyst with IDC/FTI.

MontaVista's VAME tool-kit offers embedded applications developers all the benefits of Java technology in a high performing, reliable, and robust environment. The combination of the IBM Virtual Machine and Hard Hat Linux results in a high degree of application portability and developer productivity. The latest release provides developers with a certified J2ME Java environment as well as expanded platform support.

MontaVista's Hard Hat Linux and VisualAge Micro Edition for Hard Hat Linux are available today for use with x86/IA-32, and PowerPC microprocessor architectures. VisualAge Micro Edition 1.4 for Hard Hat Linux will extend support to StrongARM, MIPS and Hitachi SH-3/SH-4 when it is released. VisualAge Micro Edition 1.4 (VAME) for Hard Hat Linux 2.0 will be available as an add-on product to subscribers of HHL in the fourth quarter of 2001.
