Maxspeed has launched two inexpensive embedded Linux thin clients that support ICA (Citrix) and RDP (Microsoft) protocols, and offer legacy and USB ports. The Maxterm 101 and 301 have suggested prices of $299 and $329, respectively. The 301 includes a local browser and terminal emulator suite.

Additionally, Maxspeed will offer a 501 model that runs Windows CE, but the company has not yet announced pricing.

All of Maxspeed's new “Value Line” thin clients appear to be based on the same hardware platform. All have 667MHz processors, and boot from 64MB of Flash ROM into 128MB of RAM, allowing headroom for future updates, Maxspeed says.

Each Maxspeed Value Line client has 2D/3D accelerated color graphics supporting 1280×1024 resolution at a color depth of 16 bits, or 1024×768 at 24 bits. Each has a “PC98” 3D sound system with audio-out and mic-in ports. Additional I/O ports include 10/100 Ethernet, parallel and serial ports, a VGA monitor port (DB-15), two ps/2 ports, and two USB ports.

Maxspeed says support for Citrix's PN Browse technology makes its new Linux thin clients easy to install, while support for Maxspeed Management System (MMS) enables centralized management of “tens of thousands” of devices.

Marketing VP Mark Nachlis said, “The MaxTerm 'Value Line' provides manageability and better performance to a cost-conscious audience.”

Maxterm also offers embedded Linux on its 800MHz and 1GHz thin client models.
