Stealth Computer announced a mini PC that packs Intel Core i7, i5, or i3 processors and includes a front-loading optical disk drive. The LPC-670 accepts input power from 12 to 20VDC, includes hard disk or solid-state storage up to 750GB, provides DVI-I and HDMI video outputs, and supports a variety of embedded operating systems, the company says.

Stealth Computer promotes the LPC-670 as being its most powerful mini PC ever, but the device isn't the company's smallest. Last year, the company announced the Intel Core 2 Duo-based LPC-100, which measured 6.1 x 4.0 x 1.45 inches and is shown at right atop the earlier LPC-450.

Unlike the LPC-100, though, the 6.5 x 6.2 x 1.9-inch LPC-670 has room for an optical disk drive, offered in CD-RW, DVD-RW, or Blu-ray configurations. It also provides more processing power, being able to accept three CPUs from among Intel's 2010 crop of Core processors. CPU choices are said to include:

• the Core i7-620M, with dual cores, 4MB cache, 2.66GHz clock speed, 3.33GHz TurboBoost frequency, and 35 Watt TDP
• the Core i5-580M, with dual cores, 3MB cache, 2.66GHz clock speed, 3.33GHz TurboBoost frequency, and 35 Watt TDP
• the Core i5-520M, with dual cores, 3MB cache, 2.4GHz clock speed, 2.95GHz TurboBoost frequency, and 35 Watt TDP

Using the expected QM57 Express chipset, the LPC-670 accepts up to 8GB of DDR3 memory in its two DIMM slots, according to Stealth. Persistent storage is via a 2.5-inch bay that accepts an SATA device: either a hard drive in sizes up to 750GB "or larger," or a solid-state disk.

Stealth doesn't say what type of internal expansion slot the LPC-670 provides, but it does say the PC's available with an optional 802.11b/g wireless networking card (Mini PCI Express, we presume?). Wired interfaces, shown below on the back of the PC, include a gigabit Ethernet connector, an RS232 port, audio I/O, two USB 2.0 ports, plus both DVI-I and HDMI video ports.

According to Stealth, the LPC-670 may be run via the supplied 12VDC power adapter, but may also be connected to external DC sources ranging from 12 to 20VDC, qualifying it for mobile and in-vehicle applications. Usable from 32 to 122 deg. F, the PC withstands shocks of up to 8G (11ms duration) while operating, the company adds.
