Nano-ITX board has dual core Atom

BCM announced a Nano-ITX motherboard that includes a dual-core, 1.66GHz Intel Atom D510 processor and supports dual displays. The NX510D has Mini PCI Express and CompactFlash slots, two SATA ports, gigabit Ethernet, and is offered with an optional TPM (trusted platform module), the company says.

BCM's new NX510D uses the 4.7 by 4.7-inch Nano-ITX motherboard format that was first unveiled by Via back in 2003. The device is said to be built around Intel's dual-core, 1.55GHz Atom D510, with on-chip graphics support, plus the ICH8M I/O controller.

Intel itself rates the D510, which works with either 800MHz or 667MHz DDR2 RAM, as using up to 13 Watts. BCM says the entire NX510D uses only 15 Watts, while its 12VDC power input allows it to be powered via batteries if desired.

Not shown above, because they're on the back of the board, are a SODIMM slot for up to 2GB of RAM, plus a CompactFlash socket for persistent storage. The NX510D's coastline includes a PS/2 port, a VGA output, two USB 2.0 ports, a gigabit Ethernet port, and a microphone input, according to BCM.

On top of the board is an LVDS connector, said to support resolutions of up to 1280 by 800 pixels. The VGA output, which can be driven simultaneously, supports resolutions up to 1400 x 1050 pixels, BCM adds.

As the image makes plain, the NX510D also sports a pair of SATA ports. There are headers for two serial ports and two additional USB 2.0 ports, while a Mini PCI Express slot is also included, says BCM.

According to BCM, the NX510D, which operates from 32 to 140 deg. F, incorporates a watchdog timer and hardware status monitoring of temperature, voltage, and cooling fan status. An Infineon SLB9635 TPM is listed as an available option.

Features and specifications listed by BCM for the NX510D include:

Further information

According to BCM, the NX510D is available now, but is only sold to "OEMs with ongoing and consistent order requirements." Operating system support was not detailed, but is likely to include Linux and Windows Embedded products.
