According to Neoware, the VDI Edition products — dubbed c50 VDI, e140 VDI, and m100 VDI — are equipped with “fully compatible” support for the “leading” virtualization technologies in the PC market. These include VMware's Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI), IBM's Virtual Client solution (VCS), and Citrix's Dynamic Desktop Initiative (DDI).
Additionally, the VDI Editions include support for Microsoft RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) and the latest version of Citrix ICA; are compatible with connection brokers from Leostream and Propero; are certified as Citrix Ready; and are compatible with the Citrix Dynamic Desktop Initiative, the company said.
The “entry level” c50 VDI runs Neolinux, the company's customized Linux-based embedded operating system, while the e140 VDI and m100 VDI are based on Windows XP Embedded software platforms.
Key specifications for each model, as listed by the company, include:
- c50 VDI Edition

Other configurations of these models — presumably including larger RAM/flash memory amounts, or substituting NeoLinux for Windows XPe or vice versa — are available on request, Neoware says.
Neoware CEO Klaus Besier stated, “The rise of virtualization technology in the corporate enterprise has given way to a new breed of thin client solutions that provide enterprises with tremendous advantages over traditional personal computers. As the first to market with a mobile virtual desktop thin client solution, Neoware has taken a significant step in driving the adoption of personal computer virtualization and the evolution of thin client computing. We will continue to leverage virtualization technology to provide our customers with the most cost-effective and reliable thin client solutions available.”
The c50 VDI, e140 VDI, and m100 VDI thin client devices are immediately available, priced at $280, $700, and $850, respectively.
Two years ago, Neoware was named the eighth-fastest growing U.S. company by Fortune magazine. The company recently published a whitepaper on Why thin clients enhance data security.
