King of Prussia, PA — (press release excerpt) — PC World Magazine in Denmark has chosen Neoware's Eon computing appliance for their Innovation of the Year Award for 2000. PC World said of Neoware's Eon computing appliance configured with the NeoLinux operating system: “This Linux based client bears witness to a high level of innovation. The unit can be fitted to almost any need imaginable, or act as only a thin client.”

Neoware's “Eon — The Anything Box” is a fully customizable computing appliance specifically designed for business applications. It can be deployed as a thin client or tailored by resellers and end users for a variety of applications including Web kiosks, routers, firewalls, cash registers, email stations, and security devices. The Eon platform can be configured to run NeoLinux, Neoware's embedded version of Red Hat Linux or with embedded versions of Microsoft's Windows operating system. The version tested by PC World was configured with Neoware's NeoLinux operating system software.

Unlike traditional versions of Linux that run on desktops or servers, NeoLinux is streamlined and optimized to power a new generation of Internet-connected computing appliances. Neoware has added a unique set of capabilities to Red Hat Linux called “ez” features, which make NeoLinux an ideal operating system for computing appliances.
