Aaeon announced a desktop networking appliance equipped with five networking ports, two with LAN bypass. The FWS-7150 comes with a choice of Via Eden (up to 2GHz) or Via C7 (1GHz) processors, supports up to 2GB of DDR2 memory, and offers SATA and solid-stage storage options, says the company.

The FWS-7150 is primarily designed for use as a router or an IDS (intrusion detection system), says Aaeon. The 1U desktop appliance is available with either a Via Eden CPU clocked at up to 2GHz, or a Via C7 CPU clocked at 1GHz, says the company. Either CPU is accompanied by a Via CN700 northbridge chipset with VT8237R southbridge, and up to 2GB DDR2 400/533MHz memory is said to be available via dual 240-pin DIMM sockets.

Five PCI 10/100Base-TX Ethernet ports are offered, two of which provide LAN bypass. Other I/O includes two USB ports and a serial DB-9 console connector, while a keyboard and mouse may be added via a pin header.

The FWS-7150 ships with a 3.5-inch SATA or ATA hard disk drive (HDD), with storage expansion available via a ATA-100 interface, dual SATA I interfaces, and a CompactFlash Type II connector for a solid-state disk (SSD), says the company. Further expansion is possible with the supplied Mini-PCI Type III expansion socket.

Specifications listed for the Aaeon FWS-7150 include:
