Lanner released a fanless, Linux-ready network appliance powered by the dual-core Intel Atom D510 or single-core D410 processor. The FW-7535 is equipped with six gigabit Ethernet ports, dual USB 2.0 ports, a 2.5-inch hard disk drive bay, and Mini-PCIe expansion, says the company.

Designed for secure network communication applications, the FW-7535 can be used in settings ranging from an office environment to a secure, industrial SCADA system, says Lanner.

Thanks to the use of the low-power, dual-core Intel Atom D510 or single-core D410 "Pineview" processors, each clocked to 1.66GHz, the FW-7535 is one of Lanner's few networking appliances with a fanless chassis, says the company. That said, in April the company announced a somewhat similar, eight-port Lanner FW-7565 network appliance based on the D510 that was cooled by two fans. (It must have been those two extra ports that sent it over the edge.)

The 7.5 x 5.7 x 1.4-inch desktop system is said to incorporate two passive heat sinks. It also features an aluminum case with heat dispersing fins, says Lanner.

Equipped with up to 4GB of DDR2 667/800MHz memory, the FW-7535 offers a Compact Flash slot, plus a bay for 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drives. A Mini PCI Express (PCIe) slot is said to be available for expansion.

The FW-7535's six gigabit Ethernet ports include one driven by an Intel 82574L controller and five using Intel 82583V controllers, says Lanner. One pair of network ports can be configured to bypass the unit in case of malfunction, the company adds.

Additional I/O is said to include dual USB 2.0 ports and an RJ-45 console port. The appliance supports Linux 2.4 and higher, as well as Windows 2000, 2003 and XP, says Lanner.

Availability

The FW-7535 is said to have been "released," suggesting current availability, but pricing was not available. The appliance will be shown at Computex in Taipei this week at Lanner booth #M929-M934 in the Nangang Exhibition Hall.
