New office application suite targets handheld devices
Aug 30, 2001 — by Rick Lehrbaum — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsSan Francisco, CA; LinuxWorld — (press release excerpt) — in light of the growing appearance of PDAs and other types of handheld computers running Linux, there has been an increased demand for embedded office programs for Linux. Accordingly, HancomLinux, Inc. (headquartered in Seoul, Korea) has announced Embedded HancomOffice. Embedded HancomOffice consists of HancomWord, HancomSheet, and HancomPresenter.
Through the use of Trolltech's Qt GUI toolkit, Hancom has been able to convert its suite of Linux desktop office application software to an embedded version in a very short period of time. Additionally, thanks to the portability of Qt, Embedded HancomOffice supports any pocket-sized system that has a working Linux port.
Embedded HancomOffice will begin shipping during the Fall of this year.
