Nexcom announced a large panel PC designed for digital signage, POS (point of sale), and kiosk applications. The MPPC 2210 sports an Atom processor, 21.6-inch screen, CompactFlash or hard disk storage, plus a Mini PCI Express expansion slot, the company says.

Nexcom says the MPPC 2210 includes a 21.6-inch screen that offers a 300-nit brightness rating, has a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and is available with or without a resistive touchscreen overlay. The device is touted as displaying "full HD 1920 x 1080" video, but we'd suggest that it is best relegated to SD resolution or to still images: The system employs Intel's 1.6GHz Atom N270 and the 945GSE northbridge, a platform that would likely lead to dropped frames in HD videos.

Apart from its impressive display, the fanless MPPC 2210 is said to offer 1GB of RAM, expandable to 2GB, plus a CompactFlash slot that could be used to store Linux, Windows, or another x86-compatible operating system. The device also includes SATA support and has a bay that can be used to add a 2.5-inch hard disk drive, Nexcom adds.

According to Nexcom, the MPPC 2210 can drive a further, external display via its VGA output. TV and DVI outputs are listed as options, though the company's data sheet implies that either of these displaces the device's CompactFlash slot.

Other I/O is said to include a serial port (RS232/422/485), two gigabit Ethernet ports, an audio line output, and two USB 2.0 ports. Meanwhile, the MPPC 2210 is said to be expandable via a Mini PCI Express expansion slot. We'd guess this slot is the venue for the optional wireless networking module listed by Nexcom.

The MPC 2210 requires 12VDC power, supplied via an external 80 Watt AC adapter, according to the company. Compatible with a standard 75 x 75mm VESA mount, the device weighs 13.22 pounds, Nexcom adds.
