Axiomtek announced a digital signage computer designed to hang from, and power, large digital signage displays. The DSA-200 supports Intel Celeron M or Core 2 Duo processors, accepts up to 4GB of DDR3 memory, includes a PCI Express Mini Card slot, and has both DVI and VGA outputs, the company says.

Axiomtek's DSA-200 is intended to hang on the back of separately available 46-, 42, or 32-inch displays, and includes a 450-Watt power supply that's said to power both the computer and the LCD. This fact goes some way toward explaining the device's unusual proportions of 28.35 x 15.82 x 1.89 inches.

According to Axiomtek, the DSA-200 has a slide-out CPU board (pictured above), which is said to ease maintenance and CPU upgrades. The design reminds us of the one touted for the company's DSA-146, an all-in-one digital signage computer released in January. That device incorporated a 46-inch screen up front, along with a PC around back that, we'd guess, is the same as the DSA-200 now being sold separately.

Axiomtek says the fanless DSA-200 uses Intel's GM45 mobile chipset and supports Celeron M or Core 2 Duo processors. (The models accepted were unspecified, but the earlier, built-up DSA-146 was said to support the 2.0GHz Celeron M 575 or the 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo T9400.) Two SODIMM slots accept a maximum 2GB of DDR3 memory, the company adds.

The DSA-200 has Mini PCI Express expansion slot that may be used to add 802.11 wireless networking, says Axiomtek. Wired connectors include a gigabit Ethernet port, VGA and DVI video outputs, and four USB 2.0 ports, the company adds.

Oddly, Axiomtek provides no word of the DSA-200's mass storage capabilities, though the device seems to have room for one or more hard disk drives. The earlier DSA-146 was said to include an 80GB disk drive, and we suspect the DSA-200 may be purchased with one too.

As for display capabilities, Axiomtek says the DSA-200 can be mated with 46-, 42-, or 32-inch screens, all packing 1920 x 1080 pixels. (The all-in-one DSA-146 was said to provide exactly that resolution, along with a 4000:1 contrast ratio, a 430-nit brightness rating, and two speakers with four-Watt amplifiers.)
