Point of sale motherboard loads up on serial connections
Nov 10, 2011 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 2 viewsNorco and its Habey USA subsidiary announced a 9.25 x 8.66-inch motherboard whose Intel Q67 chipset supports Intel “Sandy Bridge” Core i3/i5/i7 processors. The POS-7933 includes up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, ten serial ports, six USB 2.0 ports, four SATA interfaces, a gigabit Ethernet port, plus both PCI and mini-PCI Express expansion, says the company.
The POS-7933 lives up to its name as a motherboard aimed at Point of Sale (POS) computers, according to Norco. However, Norco subsidiary Habey cites a broader list of applications, including business banking, ATMs, retail kiosks, print imaging, gaming, and factory automation. Norco and Habey each offer a web page devoted to the board, with identical specs.

The Habey POS-7933 is further equipped with dual SIMMs, supporting up to 8GB of 1066/1333MHz DDR3 RAM, says the company. Both PCI and Mini-PCI Express slots are available, as are four SATA interfaces — including dual SATA 3.0 ports - featuring RAID 0/1/5/10 support.

A gigabit Ethernet port is provided on the coastline, featuring wake-on LAN, says Habey. Also on the coastline are found the VGA port, as well as a PS/2 port and an LPT parallel port, says the company. Internally, the board offers six USB 2.0 ports and 8-bit GPIO, and it appears that the audio I/O may also be internal.
The 9.25 x 8.66-inch motherboard offers an ATX power supply and supports operating temperatures ranging from -4 to 158 deg. F, says Habey. No operating system support is listed, but Linux and Windows seem likely.
