Gaming computer gambles on AMD G-Series chips
Jul 20, 2011 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 19 viewsAewin announced a gaming computer equipped with a choice of AMD G-Series processors: either the dual-core 1.6GHz T56N or the single-core 1.2GHz T44R. The SGA-2200 is available with one or two gigabit Ethernet ports, six or 10 COM ports, four USB ports, specialized security features, and gaming-specific digital I/O aplenty.
The SGA-2200 is well suited for slot machines, amusement with prize (AWP) games, and video lottery terminals (VLT), says Aewin. To support these applications, the company has fitted this Gaming Laboratories Intl.-compliant computer with physical, data, and software security features. For example, the SGA-2200 can write at least 100KB of data into NVRAM during an unpredicted AC power failure, "and make sure the data remains secured," says the company.

The SGA-2200 can achieve up to a 2,500 score while running 3DMark 2006 at 1024 x 768 resolution with 32-bit mode, claims Aewin. The device can decode H.264/MPEG-4 AVC, VC-1,DivX, Xvid, MPEG2, and Blu-ray video formats, the company adds.
The 11.0 x 6.88 x 3.78-inch SGA-2200 supports up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, and offers a solid state drive (SSD) with 2GB NAND flash, or 8GB optional, says Aewin. Battery backup is supported via NVRAM, with 2MB available on the T56N-equipped model and 512MB on the T44R-based SKU.
Dual CFast-compliant CompactFlash slots are available for flash expansion, and the system offers a pair of internal SATA interfaces, says the company. A PCI Express (PCIe) x16 slot is said to be available for peripheral expansion.
