Sharp announces Embedded Linux for high integration SOCs
Dec 10, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsCamas, WA — (press release excerpt) — Sharp Microelectronics of the Americas (SMA) announced a strategic relationship with Lineo Inc., whereby developers using Sharp's highly integrated LH79520 and LH7A400 system-on-chip (SOC) processors will gain access to Lineo's Embedix SDK 2.0 development tools. Sharp's SOCs are designed for use in mobile multimedia devices, home and office automation products, and embedded industrial products.
Lineo's Embedix SDK is a complete development environment providing all the tools a developer needs to develop, debug, and deploy their applications and services on embedded target hardware. Embedix SDK also provides the Embedix operating system, a Linux OS optimized for embedded devices that require small footprint size and scalability. The Lineo Embedix Board Support Package (BSP) includes hard real-time capabilities, allowing Sharp's chips to respond quickly to events occurring outside the silicon.
Sharp Corporation, parent company of Sharp Electronics Corp., currently has a separate agreement with Lineo under which the Lineo provides a software solution for Sharp's Zaurus SL-5500 Personal Mobile Tool.
