Pioneer Computers is readying a 10.1-inch, Android 3.0 “DreamBook ePad H10 HD” tablet based on a dual-core, 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor, due for release in April. The Australian computer firm also offers six other Android 2.1/2.2 tablets, as well as six Intel Atom and CULV tablets that offer both Android and Windows 7.

Alexandria, Australia-based Pioneer Computers — which has no association with the Pioneer consumer electronics firm —  announced on Mar. 16 that it will be showcasing its DreamBook ePad H10 HD tablet computer at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKTDC) International ICT Expo 2011, Apr. 13-16. On Mar. 14, UnwiredView had reported that the tablet would go on sale in Australia in mid-April for 699 Australian dollars (RRP), or about $705 U.S.

Pioneer Computers, which claims to have been Australia's leading manufacturer of notebooks, PCs, and servers since 1996, posted detailed specs for the DreamBook ePad H10 HD. The company also offers a variety of ARM-based Android 2.1 and 2.2 tablets, as well as an equal number of Intel Atom and Intel CULV-based tablets said to run Windows 7 and Android. Brief details and links are listed farther below.

The DreamBook ePad H10 HD joins a parade of dual-core 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2-based 10.1-inch Android 3.0 "Honeycomb" tablets set to ship this spring, most of which have very similar features. The only Android 3.0 tablet to have shipped to date is the Motorola Xoom, which, like the ePad H10 HD, offers 1280 x 800 resolution on its 10.1-inch touchscreen, and provides both a five-megapixel rear-facing camera, and two-megapixel front-facing model. Like other Tegra 2-based Honeycomb tablets, the ePad H10 HD supports 1080p video playback.

The ePad H10 HD ships with 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM, and offers a choice of 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB eMMC flash cards, says Pioneer. The tablet is said to be equipped with both a microSD slot and a SIM slot. Standard wireless features include 802.11b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, and optional GPS and 3G modules, says the company.

Additional features are said to include a micro-HDMI port, a micro-USB port, a 3.5-inch audio jack, a docking connector, plus microphone and speakers. In addition, the ePad GH10 HD offers an accelerometer, e-Compass, ambient light sensor, and a leather back cover, says Pioneer. The battery is claimed to offer up to eight hours of video playback, or 48 hours of "light usage" on the 760-gram tablet.

Aside from mentioning the Android 3.0 operating system, Pioneer says only that the tablet provides "Office and PDF viewing applications."

Pioneer Computers offers six other ARM-based DreamBook ePad tablets running Android 2.1 or 2.2., ranging in price from $169 RRP to $499 RRP. All but the $169 ePad 7 +eBook Edition models are tagged with a "New" icon. These are said to include:
