Call for papers — Embedded Linux Expo and Conference
Mar 13, 2001 — by LinuxDevices Staff — from the LinuxDevices Archive — viewsSan Clemente, CA — (press release excerpt) — The RTC Group has issued a call for papers for its third Embedded Linux Expo & Conference (ELEC) scheduled for Tuesday, June 26 and Wednesday, June 27 in San Jose, CA. The event will take place at the Wyndham Hotel, 1350 N. First Street, San Jose, CA.
Subsequent to an extraordinarily successful year in 2000, the Embedded Linux Expo & Conference returns to San Jose adding a day of conferences to meet demand. With so much focus on using the Linux operating system in embedded applications, demand for information and education has been overwhelming. The conference has taken on an international focus with last year's events pulling from over 12 countries and every major market in the U.S.
ELEC technical presentations are to be given by Chief Technology Officers (CTOs), or equivalent senior technical experts, and should focus on technical issues associated with integrating Linux and Linux-related technologies into embedded system applications. Priority will be given to selecting presentations that offer immediate technical value to the attendees and assist in better understanding issues, challenges, processes, and techniques that can be used to successfully and rapidly develop Linux-based embedded systems. Suggested topics include . . .
- Scaling Linux to meet embedded system resource constraints
- Moving legacy embedded code to Linux
- Graphical user interface considerations and options
- Satisfying the real-time response requirements of real-world applications
- Non-stop operation for critical systems
- Considerations and techniques associated with embedding Internet connectivity
- Using Flash memory in Linux-based embedded devices
- Taking advantage of post-PC alternatives to the “x86” architecture
- Case histories from actual projects based on embedded Linux
- Combining Java with Linux
- Using host-based tools for embedded Linux development
- Open-source business models
NOTE: Product pitches or product-related presentations will not be accepted.
Abstracts of proposed presentations meeting the above criteria are requested by April 6, 2001 and should be submitted via email to the ELEC Technical Conference Chair, contact Kevin Dankwardt.
About the Embedded Linux Expo & Conference (ELEC)
The Embedded Linux Expo & Conference (ELEC) is the world's first expo and conference to exclusively target the popular open-source Linux operating system in embedded applications. The San Jose ELEC event will feature two full days of technical presentations by CEOs, CTOs, and senior technical experts from leading embedded Linux companies. Speakers will address issues and challenges associated with integrating Linux and Linux-related technologies into embedded system applications. In addition, major suppliers of technologies and products useful to developers of Linux-based embedded systems will participate in the one-day exhibition portion of this event scheduled for Tuesday, June 26.
The ELEC event draws engineers, project managers, and design teams that are developing a broad range of embedded systems incorporating the Linux operating system and related technologies. Typical applications span from moderate to high performance fixed and mobile computing needs, and include: smart appliances, gaming, set-top boxes, medical equipment, defense/aerospace systems, industrial control/automation, transportation systems, instrumentation, and data acquisition.
The two-day technical conference is $159 in advance and $175 at the door. The Expo portion of ELEC is open to the public free of charge. For information on exhibiting in the Expo, contact Cindy Hickson, phone 949-226-2035.
For information on presenting a technical paper at the conference, contact Kevin Dankwardt; phone 650-961-9227.
