Lanner announced its fastest LEC-branded industrial computer to date, featuring an Intel Core i5 or i7 processor and up to 8GB of DDR3 memory. The LEC-2220 has a 2.5-inch SATA bay, dual-screen support via DVI-I and DVI-D ports, I/O including gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, and serial, plus a choice of mini-PCI-Express, PCI Express, and PCI expansion, says the company.

The LEC-2220 is the most powerful system yet in Lanner's series of "LEC" industrial box computers, the company says. (Other models we've recently covered include the Intel Atom N270-based LEC-2055 and the in-vehicle focused, Atom D510-based LEC-5510.)

The LEC-2220 can be equipped with the circa-2010 series of Intel Core i5/i7 "Arrandale" processors, and can also accept a Celeron processor, says Lanner. Along with the Intel HM55 chipset, the Core processors support HD-quality output and dual display support via the device's DVI-I and DVI-D ports, says the company.

The system can be equipped with up to 8GB of DDR3 memory, and includes a 2.5-inch bay for SATA storage. A mini-PCI Express (PCIe) card is standard, and there's a SIM card reader for 3G and GPS. Build options include a PCI Express slot and single or dual PCI slots, according to Lanner.

Dual gigabit Ethernet ports are available along with six serial ports, including two DB9 ports (RS-232 and RS232/422/485). The remaining three RS-232 ports and one more RS232/422/485 connection are available via a terminal block, says the company.

Two of the four available USB 2.0 ports are external, says Lanner. The system is also said to provide audio I/O, digital I/O, and an internal PS/2 connector.

The 10.91 x 7.64 x 2.64/3.50-inch system can operate at temperatures ranging from -4 to 131 deg. F, as long as industrial components are used, says Lanner. The system supports Linux, as well as numerous Windows versions (see spec list below).

Stated Spencer Chou, product planner at Lanner's Applied Computing Division, "The additional expansion slots have already been used for many interesting applications, such as a 6-screen digital signage display and a shipping crane controller. In the future we plan to offer such flexible expansion options with all our high-performance industrial computers."
