Rugged computers feature three or five gigabit ports
Oct 25, 2011 — by Eric Brown — from the LinuxDevices Archive — 10 viewsLogic Supply announced two fanless, barebone “Neousys” industrial computers with extended temperature support, shock/vibration resistance, and support for Intel Core i5/i7 or Celeron processors. The Nuvo-1003B offers three gigabit Ethernet ports while the Nuvo-1005 supplies five, and both provide a variety of I/O, including six USB 2.0 ports, the company says.
The Neousys Nuvo-1003B and Neousys Nuvo-1005B are designed for machine vision, surveillance, medical imaging, and networking applications, says Logic Supply. Like the Au912 system the company announced in May, the systems support Intel Core i5/i7 "Arrandale" processors up to a 2.66GHz Intel i7-620M, as well as Intel Celeron processors. They ship with an HM55 chipset instead of the QM57, however, and accept only half the memory (up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM).

The fanless system offers a different design than the Au912. The Nuvo lid is used as a heat sink, helping it support operating temperatures of -13 to 158 deg. F (-25 to 70 deg. C). Shock and vibration resistance are also part of the package, says Logic Supply.
A remote power switch can be wired in via a four-pin terminal block, says the company. As shown in the image below, internal components appear to be easily accessible.

Stated JP Ishaq, product manager at Logic Supply, "The ability to add multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports is essential to vision control systems; when you consider the cost of a four-port Intel add-in card and the extra space required, the NUVO series is a robust, cost-effective solution."
