Logic Supply announced two fanless, barebone “Neousys” industrial computers with extended temperature support, shock/vibration resistance, and support for Intel Core i5/i7 or Celeron processors. The Nuvo-1003B offers three gigabit Ethernet ports while the Nuvo-1005 supplies five, and both provide a variety of I/O, including six USB 2.0 ports, the company says.

The Neousys Nuvo-1003B and Neousys Nuvo-1005B are designed for machine vision, surveillance, medical imaging, and networking applications, says Logic Supply. Like the Au912 system the company announced in May, the systems support Intel Core i5/i7 "Arrandale" processors up to a 2.66GHz Intel i7-620M, as well as Intel Celeron processors. They ship with an HM55 chipset instead of the QM57, however, and accept only half the memory (up to 4GB of DDR3 RAM).

Expansion and storage features are also fairly similar to the Au912. The Nuvo computers include a CompactFlash slot and a SIM slot, both front-facing. There is also a SATA connector, with room for an optional 2.5-inch SATA hard disk drive (HDD) or solid state drive (SSD). In addition, the computer supplies dual front-facing eSATA ports.

Like the Au912, the Nuvo provides a Mini PCI Express (PCIe) slot that can be fitted with an optional 802.11b/g/n card. It lacks additional standard PCI Express slots, however. As far as we can see, the only difference between the two Nuvo models is the number of gigabit Ethernet ports — three or five — which are reflected in the model names. In either case, one of the ports is facing front. (By comparison, the Au912 just has two gigabit ports.)

The Nuvo systems offer additional front-facing I/O including six USB 2.0 ports and four serial ports, including one RS-232/422/485 port, says Logic Supply. Also facing front are PS/2 keyboard and mouse ports, a DVI-D port, and a VGA port, says the company.

The fanless system offers a different design than the Au912. The Nuvo lid is used as a heat sink, helping it support operating temperatures of -13 to 158 deg. F (-25 to 70 deg. C). Shock and vibration resistance are also part of the package, says Logic Supply.

A remote power switch can be wired in via a four-pin terminal block, says the company. As shown in the image below, internal components appear to be easily accessible.

The barebone Nuvo systems ship without an OS, with Windows XP Embedded, or with various flavors of Windows 7. Logic Supply says, however, that the company can work with customers to install Linux instead.
